Facial Rejuvenation

As we age, the effects of gravity, sun exposure, and the stress of daily life become noticeable on our faces. Deep grooves form between the nose and mouth, cheeks sag, and fat and wrinkles appear around the neck. A cervicofacial facelift cannot stop this process; however, what it can do is turn back the clock by improving the most visible signs of aging, tightening facial muscles, removing excess fat, and redistributing the skin on the face and neck. The facelift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures such as blepharoplasty or rhinoplasty. The brow lift corrects the drooping of the eyebrows and forehead wrinkles. If you are considering a facelift, you will receive basic information about the surgery, when it is indicated, how it is performed, and what results can be expected. However, it is impossible for all your questions to be answered, as they largely depend on personal factors and the preferences of the plastic surgeon. If you don't understand something, consult with your plastic surgeon.

Planificando la cirugía

Good communication between you and your plastic surgeon is essential. In the first consultation, your face will be evaluated, including the skin and underlying bone structures, and surgical possibilities will be discussed. Your overall health, including issues that may complicate surgery, such as high blood pressure, coagulation problems, or healing issues, will be checked. It is important to inform your surgeon if you smoke or take any medication, especially aspirin®. If you decide to undergo a facelift, the techniques and type of anesthesia that will be used, the location of the surgery, the risks, and the cost of the procedure will be explained. Facelift is not covered by the Social Security benefits catalog. Do not hesitate to ask your surgeon any questions you may have, especially those related to your expectations and the results.

Your plastic surgeon will provide specific instructions on how to prepare for the surgery, including guidelines on food and liquid intake, tobacco use, or the taking or discontinuation of medications and vitamins, as well as face washing. It is important to quit smoking at least one or two weeks before surgery. If you have short hair, you may want to let it grow before surgery to better conceal the scars as they heal. Careful compliance will ensure that the surgery is performed under optimal conditions. Also, make sure that a family member or companion can take you home when you are discharged and can assist you if needed for a few days.

The surgery

The incisions are usually placed in the hair, in front of and behind the ear. The facial and neck tissue and muscles are separated to achieve proper tightening. Result: After the surgery, especially during the first 24 hours, you may feel swelling in the face, discomfort around the nose, and headaches, which will subside with medication. You should remain lying down with your head elevated during the first day (except for bathroom breaks). You will notice that swelling and bruising around the eyes increase until reaching a peak at 2 or 3 days. Applying cold compresses will reduce swelling, and you will feel better. In any case, you will feel better than your appearance may suggest. Most bruises and swelling will disappear within about 2 weeks (minimal swelling, practically only noticeable to your surgeon, may last a few months). It is normal to experience slight nosebleeding in the first few days. You should not blow your nose forcefully for about a week until the tissues heal. If you have nose plugs, these will be removed in 1 or 2 days, after which you will feel much better. After a week, or at most two, the plaster will be removed, along with any skin stitches if you have them.

In a forehead lift, the incision is placed on the forehead, concealed behind the hair, or in certain cases, at the hairline. The skin in this area is separated from the underlying structures, removing the muscles responsible for wrinkles and excess skin.

Are there risks? Are there guarantees?

Frontal lift with classic incisions and results. When the facelift is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent and of little importance. However, each person has a specific anatomy, physical reactions and healing abilities, and therefore the results are not absolutely predictable. Some complications may occur, such as bruising, injury, almost always temporary, to the nerves that control the facial muscles, infection, and reactions to anesthesia. Scarring problems are more common in smokers. Risks can be minimized by carefully following your plastic surgeon's instructions, both before and after surgery.

Los resultados

Frontal lift using endoscopy and mini-incisions and results. The results are very satisfactory and you will feel happy, as long as you understand that the result is not immediate. Even after the swelling and bruising goes away, the hair around the temples may be thin and the skin somewhat dry and rough for a few months. The facelift scars will be hidden behind the hair and in the natural folds of the face; In any case, they will decrease over time, becoming barely visible. A facelift does not stop the clock; Your face will continue to age as time goes by, and you may even want to undergo a new facelift after 5 or 10 years. However, the results are long-lasting; After several years you will continue to look younger.
