Breast Augmentation Surgery

Mamoplasty

Breast augmentation, also known as mammoplasty, is a surgery performed to increase the size of the breasts. It involves placing breast implants beneath the breast tissue or chest muscles.

For some women, breast augmentation is a way to boost their confidence. For others, it is part of breast reconstruction due to various illnesses.

If you are considering breast augmentation, consult with a plastic surgeon. Make sure you understand what the surgery entails, including potential risks, complications, and follow-up care.

Risks

Breast augmentation poses various risks, such as:
- Scar tissue that distorts the shape of the breast implant (capsular contracture)
- Chest pain
- Infection
- Changes in nipple and breast sensitivity
- Changes in implant position
- Implant leakage or rupture

Correcting these complications may necessitate additional surgeries to remove or replace the implants.

After the procedure

It is likely that you will experience pain and swelling for a few weeks after surgery. Bruising may also occur. Scars fade over time but do not completely disappear.

During the healing process, you can contribute by using a compression bandage or a sports bra to provide additional support and keep the breast implants in place. The surgeon may also prescribe pain relievers.

Follow your surgeon's instructions on when to resume normal activities. If your job does not involve high physical demands, you may be able to return to work within a few weeks. Avoid strenuous activities or anything that can increase heart rate or blood pressure for at least two weeks. While in the healing process, remember that your breasts will be sensitive to physical contact or sudden movements.

The results

The results after a breast augmentation are usually very pleasing for the patient. Regular check-ups with their plastic surgeon and periodic mammograms (if applicable based on their age) ensure that any complications, if present, can be detected and addressed in a timely manner. The decision to undergo breast augmentation is a highly personal choice that not everyone may understand; if you are satisfied, the intervention will have been a success.

Check-Up

Medical check-up, or health assessment, involves medical examination and tests to get an overview of someones health condition and wellbeing. The goal of check up is early detection of a potential health issue and monitoring of an existing condition. Routinely check up can reduce the risk of chronic diseases and increase chances of recovery and optimal health.
